Lache Residents Organise Vigil for Orlando Victims

Hundreds gather in City Centre to pay respects to Orlando massacre victims 

Flipside Radio and Lache Community Development Trust Volunteers Su Johnstone, Craig Gilmartin, Matt Poynton and Steph Cookson, who all hail from Lache, organised a special candle lit vigil in honour of the 49 victims of the Orlando Massacre.

The Vigil took place last night (Monday 13th June) at Town hall square in Chester City centre.  Over 150 candles were lit by Chester residents and the event was attended by the Lord Mayor of Chester Cllr Angela Claydon and Cheshire West and Chester Councill leader Samantha Dixon.

Flipside Radio presenter Matt Poynton, who gave a moving speech at the vigil said afterwards.

“... what can i say? I am an emotional wreck at the moment. Thank you Craig Gilmartin for having the idea, a days work well done. A huge thank you to everyone that came and showed that we will stand with Orlando. My heart breaks thinking of those people that lost there lives for being themselves…”

Fellow organiser Craig Gilmartin said.

“A massive thank you to the people of Chester for turning up this evening. What an amazing turn out. Everyone did themselves, our City and the fallen we were there to honour proud.”
